Types and Elements of the Art of Music

Judging from its function, the art of music can be used as a tool to get rid of boredom, express yourself, and as a medicine to calm yourself down.
According to Aristotle, the art of music is a depiction and a power of description that begins with a sense of movement in one melody (tone), which has a rhythm. Or more simply the art of music is a sound arrangement that contains rhythm, melody, order, and harmony.
As we know, the art of music has many musical models. Especially for music that is developing at this time. various kinds of musical instruments were created just to satisfy the taste of music and indulge music lovers.
Types of Music Arts

The art of music has several types. These types include traditional music, modern music, and contemporary music.

  1. Traditional Music
    The first type of musical art is traditional music. This music is usually a legacy from our ancestors passed down from generation to generation. Traditional music still uses regional language lyrics, has no notation, and the musical instruments used are traditional.
  2. Modern Music
    As we know, modern music is currently very fast-growing universally. Modern music is the art of music that has been acculturated with modern technology and culture, both musical instruments and the way music is presented.
  3. Contemporary Music
    In Indonesia, the type of contemporary music is music that developed in the 1990s. This music is characterized by a complex variation of tones; has a color or type of sound, tempo, and rhythm that varies; sound sources vary not only from instrumental music.

Art Elements of Music

  1. Rhythm
    Rhythm or what you are more familiar with is a short length and pitch. The element of rhythm is a very important element in the art of music because rhythm determines the beat in music.
  2. Melody
    As we know, a melody is a form of sound arrangement in sequence from high to low or low to high. Melody is one of the attractions in the art of music.
  3. Harmony
    The next element of the art of music is harmony. Harmony is a collection of mixtures of notes and melodies that have regularity so they are beautiful to listen to. Harmonies are also often known as chords to accompany the music.
  4. Time Frame
    In contrast to rhythm, time is a beat element in music with a regular time and tempo.
  5. Scale
    This one element of the art of music is commonly used to organize music players in an orchestra. The scale is a musical element consisting of tones that are arranged in stages starting from the basic tone to the high note which is an important element in musical performances.
  6. The tempo
    The tempo is a measure of the speed at which a song is played. For example, the faster the song is played, the tempo in the bar, the faster it is sung.
  7. Dynamics
    As we know, dynamics is a sign to play a tone related to volume so that it makes a loud and melodious sound to be heard. Dynamic music elements are the most important elements of music to express emotional musical expressions such as sadness, joy, and so on.
  8. Timbre
    Timbre or what we usually know as sound color is the quality of the sound of music. For example, a guitar has a different timbre from a drum instrument even though the instrument is played on the same scale.
