Bass Fish

If you want to catch and retain bass you must have an authorisation to do so. Commercial fishermen will be authorised to catch and retain bass with certain gears. Authorisations are being issued to vessels with a track record of landing bass during the reference period of 1 July 2015 to 30 September 2016 subject to any successful transfer requests. Worldwide distribution of the European bass.Bass are found throughout European waters. They are found around Skagerrak and throughout the North Sea, although they are not very common in the Baltic Sea.

During February and March all bass fishing is prohibited and bass catches must be returned to the sea. Fishers should take all reasonable measures to avoid and minimise bass discards. In the absence of adequate means of fixing the net to the bottom of the sea being present the net will not be considered to be a fixed net.

Their range extends along the Atlantic coastline of France, Spain and Portugal and along parts of the north coast of Africa. They are also present throughout the whole of the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. Bass are found in the waters of the south and west of the UK all year round, although it may be the smaller immature bass which are present during the colder months.

If you fish using more than one of the permitted gears in a single calendar month the lowest of the catch limits for the gears will apply. These are hard lures, generally made out of plastic, and can be floating or diving in design. Some plugs designed for bass fishing can be extremely expensive, costing upwards of £25 each! Other plugs are much more modestly priced and many anglers have success lure fishing for bass using relatively cheap spinners which are designed for mackerel or very inexpensive jelly eels and worms. Lure fishing for bass is an active method of fishing with few aspects of sea fishing around the UK more exciting than seeing a bass launch itself at a plug being drawn across the surface of the water.

While being bowed instruments, they can be played pizzicato, which is a standard double bass technique in jazz, blues and rockabilly. The electric bass guitar is usually the instrument referred to as a “bass” in pop and rock music. The electric bass guitar, while invented in 1930s by Paul Tutmarc, was first mass-produced by Leo Fender in 1951 and quickly replaced the more unwieldy double bass among non-classical musicians. Where a vessel is lost at sea and/or is damaged beyond repair a transfer of authorisation will be considered providing the replacement vessel is no larger in engine size and tonnage. Individuals wishing to transfer an existing authorisation to a new/replacement vessel should contact as soon as practicable, providing evidence that their circumstances meets the above mentioned criteria.

You are not allowed to catch and retain with any other gears, including nets that drift with the current or are capable of doing so. If you have been issued an authorisation you will be authorised to catch and retain bass with the gear types listed on your authorisation, subject to the specific limitations for each gear. From 1 March to 30 November, not more than two seabass may be retained per fisherman per day. In recreational fisheries in ICES divisions 8a and 8b, a maximum of two seabass may be retained per recreational fisherman per day throughout the year. As seen in the musical instrument classification article, categorizing instruments can be difficult.

However, no bass may be sold in relation to any recreational fishing. There have been a number of different restrictions placed on both anglers and commercial fishermen in an attempt to halt the decline. Since 2016 there have been restrictions on UK anglers recreational bass fishing including bag limits and a catch-and-release only policy . Authorisations will transfer to a new owner of the vessel when the ownership of the vessel is transferred. The current catch uptake by that vessel will also be transferred – i.e. the catch limits will not be reset. For example, if a vessel has used all of its hooks & line annual catch limit then the new owner of the vessel will not be permitted to catch and retain further bass using hooks and lines.

The giant sea Stereolepis gigas, also known as the black sea bass, is a member of the wreckfish family Polyprionidae. N., pl. (esp. collectively) bass, (esp. for kinds or species) bass•es. Any of numerous edible, spiny-finned, freshwater or marine fishes of the families Serranidae and Centrarchidae. An instrument, especially a double bass or bass guitar, that produces tones in a low register.

A musician playing one of these instruments is often known as a bassist. Other more specific terms such as ‘bass guitarist’, ‘double bassist’, ‘bass player’, etc. may also be used. A bass musical instrument produces tones in the low-pitched range C4- C2. Basses belong to different families of instruments and can cover a wide range of musical roles. Since producing low pitches usually requires a long air column or string, the string and wind bass instruments are usually the largest instruments in their families or instrument classes. Therefore any catches with unauthorised gears and catches with authorised gears over the authorized limit must be discarded.
